Surfactants & Detergents
Description of Surfactants & Detergents: surfactants are substances that lower surface tension. These Surface-Active Ingredients can reduce the surface tension between two liquids, between a liquid and a solid, or between a liquid and a gas. Surfactants have many functions, such as dispersing, emulsifying, degreasing, wetting or spreading. What all these functions have in common is that they work by having a long hydrophobic tail and a hydrophilic head, allowing surfactants to form micelles. The tails are very similar in most surfactants, they mainly differ in the hydrophilic head. This head can either be non-ionic, anionic, cationic or amphoteric. The capability of surfactants to form micelles, makes it possible to trap grease, oils and other water insoluble substances inside. This makes them the most common component used in personal care, cleaning and detergent formulations.

Alaninate SC30-5 is a very gentle surfactant that is based on the natural amino acid L-Alanine. This anionic amino acid surfactant is made from L-Alanine and coconut oil fatty acid. Alaninate SC30-5 has good foaming properties, especially in neutral and weakly acidic conditions. It produces a rich, creamy foam. In combination with cationic polymers it can be a great conditioner, giving a perfect hair/skin feel. Alaninate SC30-5 is a good moisturizer and has 30% solid content and 5% sodium chloride.

Octyldodecanol is a transparent, odorless fatty alcohol. It is compatible for personal care products, where a wide range of pH is required. A medium spreading emollient. Octyldodecanol is a very common base within the formulation of emollient esters. It has very good penetration features with high stability levels, making it appropriate for deodorants, decorative cosmetics and skin care products. This material also has strong solvent, humectant and gloss enhancing features.

Cocamidopropyl Betaine 35 is an amphoteric surfactant that is compatible with all other types of surfactants. In combination with other surfactants, it will reduce the irritating effects of the other surfactants while at the same time producing a very pleasant, stable and rich foam. It can also be added to thicken a formulation. Cocamidopropyl Betaine 35 is very widely usable in skin care, hair care and body care products. It can even be used in baby products, and products like deodorants, after shaves, as well as a wide variety of (laundry) detergents.

Lauryl Glucoside50CE is a non-ionic surfactant belonging to the family of Alkyl Polyglucosides. An aqueous solution of C12-14 fatty alcohol polyglucoside, which is made from natural raw materials: glucose derived from corn and fatty alcohols from coconut and palm kernel oils. It's known for its mildness, foaming performance and ability to reduce irritation and therefore very suitable for a wide range of personal care, home care and baby care products. For cleaning products, due to it's caustic stability and solubility in highly concentrated salt, Lauryl Glucoside50CE can be used for caustic, neutral and acidic hard surface cleaners for Homecare and Institutional Cleaning.

Coco Glucoside50 46CE is an aqueous solution of C8-14 fatty alcohol polyglucoside and a non-ionic surfactant. It is made from natural raw materials: glucose derived from corn and fatty alcohols from coconut and palm kernel oils. Due to its outstanding foaming performance and mildness, it's commonly used as a secondary surfactant for personal care cleansing products such as body wash. Coco Glucoside in skin care and body care is used in body lotion, shaving cream, skin cream, shower gels, skin moisturizers and many more products. In hair care formulations it appears in products such as hair conditioners and shampoos. Coco Glucoside 50 46CE also shows caustic stability and solubility in highly concentrated alkali and salt solutions, which makes it a perfect ingredient for home care and institutional hard surface cleaners. It's a green and skin friendly ingredient with all required global certifications, which can be used in numerous personal care and cleaning applications.
Potassium Cetyl Phosphate

Potassium Cetyl Phosphate is a naturally derived anionic surfactant that is often used as a (co-) emulsifier. The powder is an excellent choice for oil/water emulsions and can help to stabilize solutions. It aids in boosting the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) in sunscreens. This mild product adds a silk-like layer on the skin and can increase the water-resistance of the formula. Because of its mildness it is also safe to to be used in a variety of baby-care products.

Cetearyl Glucoside 25-CA68 is an O/W emulsifier that is auto-thickening and auto-emulsifying. It is made by dehydration of plant-based fatty alcohols and glucose to give a product with about 25% alkyl glucoside. Cetearyl Glucoside 25-CA68 is solvent and additive free, making for a low irritancy emulsifier that gives a silky-smooth skin feel. It has moisturizing properties and also acts as a stabilizer for products in the emulsion. In addition Cetearyl Glucoside 25-CA68 has excellent emulsifying and thickening properties. Used in moisturizers, anti-aging creams, and sunscreens.
