Conditioning

Conditioning Ingredients or Chemicals

Description of Conditioning: in general conditioning is a product or process that enhances the quality of another substance. In the personal care world conditioning agents are substances added to formulations to improve the softness and feel of the hair or skin. They are added to many Hair Care and Skin Care formulations, from hair conditioners to skin moisturizers and from skin/sun creams to some shampoos. Conditioning agents are often positively charged. This counters the deprotonating effect many soaps and shampoos have due to the natural attraction between positive and negative charges. When the conditioning agent is bound to the hair or skin, it will impart a softer feel while also providing a lubricating effect. Especially in hair care this greatly improves the feel and manageability of the hair. Many polyquaterniums are conditioning agents, for example Polyquaternium 22, and same for guar derivative for example Guar XL-45. Another group of conditioners are cationic surfactants like Cetrimonium Chloride.
